Cleaning of tanker ships and tank farms is handled differently from other commercial vessels due to varying classification, quantity, and hazardous nature of the cargo. Cleaning of tanks entails wiping and cleaning residual oil in the cargo tanks and chipping/scrapping the cargo tanks with tools and detergents.
